fanfic speedrun: write the scene you want to write and skip the rest of the fic
(same goes on the reader side of things)
I’m seeing people on this post who think that what I’m saying is, “Write out of order, starting with the things you enjoy most.” And while that’s fine advice, it’s not actually what I said.
What I said was, “Only write the thing that’s fun, and don’t write the rest.”
Write one shots. Write drabbles. Write ficlets. If you have 5 interesting scenes but you can’t figure out how to tie them together into a fic, then write 5 separate ficlets, post them in a series, and when you get another idea for that series just plop it right in there and rearrange the works into the right order.
You don’t have to write longfic to write fanfic.
I love one shots. One shots are awesome. One shots don’t fuck around. One shots are a hit of pure, distilled fandom straight into the veins. They know what they’re here to accomplish and by God they accomplish it with as little extraneous bullshit as possible. Sometimes you don’t want a 30 chapter slow-burn epic five course meal; it too much. Sometimes you just want to down a double-expresso one shot of your favorite character and ride that high for the rest of the afternoon.
I think as adults with our own living spaces it’s important to have your friends over periodically for a sleepover. And i mean a real sleepover. Staying up late to watch movies with junkfood and popcorn and then going to bed only to stay up even later talking in the dark and laughing because you’re so exhausted that everything’s funny but you still don’t want to fall asleep.
Yesterday night a lady came through our drive through and was like “the way the planets are aligning and the fact that we’re getting a blood moon has me worried. I sense severe werewolf activities on the horizon. You better walk your coworker to her car tonight after you’ve closed” and I didn’t even know what to say I was just like “yes ma’am”

I work at a humane society shelter, and this does happen occasionally. usually cats won’t “steal” the kittens, they’ll hear them crying and stick around and if a momma doesn’t come around they’ll take them somewhere safe and try to care for them
we recently had a very confused lady who called that her cat was trying to take care of an astounding 8 kittens and brought them in
the kittens were obviously malnourished, and we looked around her neighborhood and sadly found the dead mama, she got hit by a car
it’s a really useful thing that cats will do
sometimes the mom will just have gotten lost and will come back to try and find her kittens and so that can be frustrating, but considering how rough it is for stray kittens, it’s a lot better for them to be in a household and cared for where the parent cat can get guareenteed food and shelter
I can’t tell you how many abandoned kittens we find that can’t make it
it sucks a lot
